And the rest of the last for 2009

Looks pretty evident to me with the bouncing around that there is a massive change on the horizon

On Being Pakeha Now. Last paintings of 2009

An intention for 2009 was to create 52 paintings, all starting with the title, On Being Pakeha Now. Pakeha being a white New Zealander, that which I am. Last December we returned to New Zealand for Christmas. During the visit I spent much time reflecting on my life as a Pakeha, my country, Aotearoa, land, Papatuanuku and the people and their histories. Hence, came the idea to create 52 paintings over the course of a year in response to it.

Nothing if not Ordinary is the title for one. I rather fell for her.

Thus far for 2010 I have put my brushes down. It's a time to draw, look deeper into the Master's. Leaving the notion of numbers behind.

Monoprints

Out of interest to look at the traditional, well not quite so traditional in application and the new playfulness.

monopaintings

Recently whilst watching a documentary on modern art, the artist Whitney McVeigh was featured. Loving her work my attention was grabbed. Initially the process rang a bell for a student. So the next day I found an old mirror and set about seeing if the idea would work so I could then teach it to my student. Well I was captivated through this new process.......... MonoPainting, well that's what I've named it anyway.
Above are a selection from my first session.
